I made this blanket full size. As the pattern has lots of puff stitches it is very warm! I really enjoyed having over my legs on cold evenings while I was making it!
This pattern has 3 parts the body (the waves), the border prepare and then the shell border.
I found the pattern for the waves HERE (MyPicot.com/0033). (This site has lots of patterns I can't wait to try!).
Once I had the body of the blanket the size I wanted I needed to straighten the top and bottom edges. I did this with 2 rows.
1st Row. I used 5 sc (over the top of the wave) and then going down each side I did 3 hdc followed by 3dc. I skipped the bottom middle stitch.
2nd Row. I only used 4hdc in the dip (again skipping the bottom middle). The rest of the stitches are just sc.
I also did a row of sc down each side of the blanket (adding a sc - 2ch - sc) for the corners.
Now the only thing left is the border. I decided on a shell border.
Start anywhere on one of the sides.
1st Row (white) Join with 3ch and 5 dc in same stitch (6dc shell). skip 2 and sc into 3rd stitch. skip 2 and make next shell the 3rd stitch.
For the corners: Do a 9dc shell.
*If you find that a shell doesn't line up with the corner, don't worry. Just do a few shells with a skip 1 on one side (instead of skip 2 on both sides). No one will notice! I also prefer to only skip 1 on each side of the corner shell, but try out what works best for you!
Once you get back to where you started cut and join to top of starting chain.
2nd Row (Light Blue). Turn the blanket (So this time you crochet the other way around blanket). Join the wool at any sc. 4ch and dc into same sc (a V-Stitch). Make your way around the blanket with V-stitches (dc - ch - dc) in the sc between the shells.
*If like me you like the crossover look just do the 1st dc on the left-hand side of the sc and the 2nd dc on the right-hand side.
For the corners: After last V-stitch 3ch and sc in 4th dc. 2ch. sc in next dc. 3ch. next V-stitch.
Once you get back to the starting chain join with slip stitch to 3rd chain.
3rd Row (Still Light Blue). 3ch and 7dc into same V-Stitch. sc into top of white shell (capturing the blue chain). 8dc in all V-Stitches (Shells) and sc into top of all white shells.
For the corners: Make the sc in the 2nd dc of the white shell. The corner shell (in the 2ch space) should be 9dc. The last sc should be in the 2nd dc from the last of the white shell.
After last sc cut and join to the top of the starting chain.
4th Row (Dark Blue). Turn blanket again. Join and 4ch to any light blue sc. [sc - 2ch - sc] (picot) into the top each shell. [3ch - sc -3ch] into each light blue sc.
For the corners: [sc - 2ch - picot - 2ch - picot - 2ch - sc] evenly around.
After last 3ch cut and join to 2nd ch of starting Chain.
All that is left is to weave in any ends that remain and to block!

This is my 1st attempt at writing crochet patterns (or at least part of one). If something doesn't make sense please let me know. I'll be happy to help.
